Our chronicles as we create our off-grid homestead in Interior Alaska -- from escaping the rat race and big city, to extreme cold weather subsistence/self-sufficient living just outside the Arctic Circle.

Entering AK
Well we took these just before we crossed back into US territory...
Enjoy.

I'm delighted to see you two have made it safely into Fairbanks. Talk about a huge sigh of relief!
Watch out for those mosquito's, Mark - they seem to favor male blood. Mind you, since the female mosquito is the one that does the biting, I guess it makes sense.
Our youngest daughter graduated from U of A - Fairbanks some years ago and we flew up for her graduation. (Boy, were our arms tired! Ba-dump!) We also got to meet her boyfriend (now her husband of 10 years) for the first time.
Back to the mosquito's - they eat me alive. I seem to be especially sensitive to mosquito bites and exhibit fair size welts when I've been bitten. I used to suffer every summer in Fargo, ND when I lived there in the 1970's. They rival Alaskan mosquito's!
Anyway, enjoy your respite - you've certainly earned it. -- Sam....
Poor Sam :( Luckily, I'm not terribly affected by mosquitos. They get me every now and then, burn like the dickens for a half-hour and then go away. I think they go after males because you guys are generally warmer than us women-folk LOL!
